I got the chance to catch up with Ralph Mesquita, a 25 year old Belgo-Brazilian ultra-runner who, in July of 2017, will be attempting to run from Nordkapp in Norway to Tarifa in Spain in less than 80 days. Ralph is keen to raise awareness for obesity and so he is dedicating this run to the illness. Currently ranked in the top 100 Belgian trail runners and ultra runners, Ralph is also a physiotherapy student graduating in the summer of 2017, a part-time store vendor and a sponsored athlete for TRAKKS, a running store and their own elite team.

Europa United were delighted to be one of the media partners with Ralph on his amazing quest and since Christmas it has been go, go, go for Ralph.

For the last few weeks, Ralph had been focusing on his studies as this his is last year but  he has still managed to fill in any free time with training and preparation for this summer’s attempt. As always, funding for these project is crucial and top of the list for it to be a success but Ralph is planning to organise a fund raising night for his trek in Brussels. It is hoped that Ralph will be able to arise awareness as well at get some valuable sponsors on board. Tickets for the event will be available soon so watch this space and we will update you as soon as everything is confirmed.

Ralph is also taking the time to visit local schools to help children understand how fitness and heathy eating is important, especially in later life.

So if you would like to help us and Ralph get to his goal, you can make a donation by logging on to Ralph’s website or donate directly. You can also join Ralph along the route by running with him or just meeting him along the road.

We’ll be keeping in touch with Ralph and next time, we’ll take a look at his training regime for this trek and what is involved in being an ultra-runner.
